Closer to Heaven

Photographs by Alena Radina

The Temple of Heaven was found in the first half of the 15th century.

It is the essential place for tourists to visit.

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests with its round roof and three layers of eaves was the earliest building of the Temple,

symbolizing Heaven.

The southern part of the Temple of Heaven is square, symbolizing the earth.

Architectural features of the property vividly demonstrate the traditional Chinese philosophical ideas and cultural concepts.

It is the world's largest existing building complex for offering sacrifice to heaven. Four times larger than the Forbidden City.

The garden landscape and pathways have retained their historic layout.
